Welcome to the 2008 EO European/African Conference!

At 305 years old St. Petersburg is young by European standards, but this vibrant city has an impressive history. From the times of Peter the Great through the Siege of Leningrad to its current renaissance, the city has lived a dramatic and rich life.

Since its beginning St. Petersburg has flourished as the European center of Russia and the country’s window to the west. As the world’s largest northernmost city, with its abundance of palaces, canals and bridges many call it the “Venice of the North.” While preserving its grand architectural and cultural roots, it has also become a major trade gateway and a financial and industrial magnet within Russia. It’s the perfect setting for the 2008 EO European/African Conference.
